Looking into the Heisman Crystal Ball... Without the Ball

The Heisman trophy ceremony is on the way; however, one of the top running backs in the nation may not be in attendance in New York that special night.  Wisconsin running back Montee Ball has been snubbed all year of consideration for the Heisman despite his impressive statistics.

Until the latest Heisman watch poll, in which Ball jumped to the 6th spot receiving 13 votes, he has virtually been unheard of when the prestigious trophy is mentioned.  Being a Big Ten fan, I have watched Montee Ball over the last couple of years.  I think any NFL team would be lucky to have him, even in place of Richardson.  This guy has a nose for the end zone.  Ball has scored 29 touchdowns this year, 9 more than his counterpart Richardson; and is ahead of Richardson in yards with 15 less carries.

The most basic rushing statistics suggest that Ball is a better RB than Richardson.  Why is Richardson five spots ahead of him on the Heisman list?  One could argue because he plays for Alabama, the 2nd best team in the nation, that he is obligated to be the front runner.  Keep in mind where would Wisconsin be if they hadn’t lost in the closing seconds of the 4th quarter on two fluke hailmary passes in the endzone.  Even when Wisconsin was tearing it up and moving up the polls, Russell Wilson was considered the main proponent that was propelling Wisconsin to the top.  What is it about this guy that keeps him being held under the foot of Heisman voters?  Beats me! This guy has every right to be in New York delivering an acceptance speech.  If you’d ask me, I’d take Ball over Luck in the coming 2012 NFL draft.  Are you listening Colts?

In Coach We Trust?

There used to be a day when coaches were the cornerstone of communities.  They were the ones that helped rear children in the right path.  Not rear children in the ass.  It is scary to think that the eighteen plus years I played recreational travel, and varsity sports, that I could have encountered one of these coaches.  A coach that uses his power and dominion over the kids that looks up to them and in some ways as their sole patriarchal figure.  To take advantage of this, and to use their power as coaches and teachers in the area of life that allows so many joys and triumphs is mind boggling.  With all of these stories do we really have complete trust in each one of our kids’ coaches?  It is sad to think that we are coming to a point in our society where parents will have to be at every practice, and game just to ensure their children are allowed to play sports in a safe environment.  As more and more information on the Bernie Fine and Jerry Sandusky case unfold.  It will be interesting to see just how the attitude towards the neighborhood and recreational coaches turns.  Just from these two disturbing stories, maybe that’s exactly what some coach’s need.

Is This The End For Cain

Herman Cain has again made headlines, but it is not for his poll rousing 9-9-9 plan, or his smooth talk in GOP debates.  A Georgia Businesswoman by the name of Ginger White has come out with the accusation that Herman Cain and she were involved in a thirteen year extra marital affair.  Herman Cain went on CNN before the story even aired and defended his self by stating that he had never had sex with Ms. White in the time that he had known her.  This is now the third woman to come out with a story of sexual misconduct against the former pizza executive; and just a week after Cain was filmed stumbling over a question of foreign affairs in Libya.  Is it time for the pizza boy to return to the kitchen?
The best bet for Cain at this point is to thank his supporters and to withdraw from the campaign trail.  He is running for a position that is held with the utmost honor and distinction; and to attempt to sway the American public that he is deserving of this honor and distinction will be about as impossible as Ndamukong Suh trying to convince more people he did not kick a player on national television.  Cain is not the first or last public figure to come under scrutiny because of sexual scandals (Clinton, Spitzer, Weiner).  But he would be one of the first to take sexual scandals into a high ranking office.  Which is why, in the minds of many it is time for Cain to take a step back, and give way to Gingrich and Romney.  With the tongue tied Perry, and the can’t keep it in his pants Cain.  This race has become a two headed monster being led by the old school politician Newt Gingrich and on his heels the ones conservatives fear Mitt Romney.  Should be an interesting race for the Republican nominee.

The Republican Candidates

The Republican Presidential Candidates

The Republicans are struggling to say the least.  They are struggling to find a leader who can challenge incumbent President Obama in the 2012 elections.  I thought it would be funny to compare the candidates as cartoon/sitcom characters so we could have  a better idea of who they are.

Herman Cain:  Herman is like the old pimp daddy uncle who waves his money around.  His character is Pepy la Pew.  Pepy was a smooth French speaking skunk that was hornier than a two year old dog.   Cain is like Pepy in that he acts inappropriately towards women as we have seen with the recent sexual harassment allegations against him.  They are also similar in that Pepy thought he was a smooth talker.  Only problem was Pepy didn’t know what he was talking about, like Cain.  Cain is somewhat articulate, he’s smart but he does not understand politics and policy, as his Libya answer construed days ago.
Rick Perry:  Perry is like the slow kid in class that everyone likes and uses because he’s older to get cigarettes.  The character that he best resembles ‘bullet head’ from the Steve Harvey Show.  Bullethead was slow dim whited but he always found a way to make you laugh.  That’s Perry whether it’s his N’ word hunting grounds, or his ‘oops’ on national TV.  He knows exactly how to make you saw, ‘awe he’s so dumb’.
Newt Gingrich:  Newt is that old school politician.  He flips any and everything like he’s Young Jeezy in the kitchen (TM 103).  Because he is the elderly politician in the group I have to compare him to Matthew McConaughey’s character in Dazed and Confused (David Wooderson).  The guy who lives in the glory days and can’t wait to surround himself with younger woman.
Michelle Bachman:  Bachman reminds me of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.  She says enough to keep herself out of trouble, but doesn’t say enough to make you really want to watch the show.  But still she appeals to you on some level because you feel you should watch.  Ehh it could be worse; it could Sarah Palin.
Mitt Romney:  Mitt should be the front runner in this race, but his Mormonism and healthcare bill are keeping him from reaching his potential.  I best compare him to Scottie Pippen.  No it’s not a cartoon or a sitcom, but Mitt seems like a great number #2.  Someone who a number one can lean on when he’s a little sick in game 5 of the 1998 Finals.  Someone who is dependable and understandable.  But not someone who can hold down the fort when the number 1 or 23 decides to retire.

My Response to Jane Levy's Open Letter from Grantland.com

My Response to Jane Levy’s open letter

Read the Grantland Article before you read mine

First I want to open by saying in no way do my comments reflect the type of writer and thinker Jane Levy is.  Because I enjoy reading her articles and think she articulates her point very well.  With that said your open letter to Mike McQueary is completely asinine.  I will start at your ending where you invite the notion to put the Penn State Football Program on a one year death penalty.  A death penalty, for what?  Has the Penn State Program been found to violate any NCAA laws?  Have they been found to pay potential prospects in an attempt to persuade them to come to their school?  Have any current or former players been involved in this horrific and disgusting scandal?  The only question that can be answered with a yes is the last one and that is because of the then grad assistant Mike McQueary (But I will get to him later).  So, why then would we punish a football team, a program, and its student-athletes for something they had nothing to do.  The problem with this whole scandal is too much attention has been paid to the football program and people like Joe Paterno.  When really all of the questions should be directed at the one person who with his own two eyes witnessed a vile, and horrific sexual act being performed against a 10 year old boy; and instead of him doing what a normal 28 year old, which has any sense at all would do.  He walked away, silently.  He being the only person who could have stopped the sodomy chose to neglect a ten year old boy as he was in the midst of a monster.  And instead of talking about this in your open letter you talk about how tough it is to be a snitch.  How difficult it must have been for him to witness the sexual encounter and not know what to do.  Are you kidding me?  If I am 15 years old and I saw what he saw I would have first stopped it, and second told everyone I could.  But, no he decided to call his dad for guidance at the ripe old age of 28; and the next day tell Joe Paterno what he believed to have seen in the shower that day.  What is even worst now, is he had the audacity to give this statement to the Associated Press, “I did stop it, not physically … but made sure it was stopped when I left that locker room … I did have discussions with police and with the official at the university in charge of police … no one can imagine my thoughts or wants to be in my shoes for those 30-45 seconds … trust me."  How do you as a 28 year old say you did stop it not physically but when you left the locker room?  I remember you called your father.  And today we learned that neither the Penn State Police nor the State College, PA police have any knowledge of a sexual abuse report coming from you (McQueary) or about Sandusky.  So, instead of facing the criticism he not only hides but he lies.  He lies after all of these years he has kept his silence, and Sandusky has had the opportunity to rape and ruin the lives of more and more kids.  To Mike McQueary I will leave you with this.
No, Mike McQueary I cannot imagine your thoughts or wanted to be in your shoes for those 30-45 seconds.  But think about the 10 year old boy who glances up to see your shocked face as he is helplessly wandering, wishing someone could come save him.  His eyes make contact with yours and he cries out for help as water fills his eyes for you to save him.  Meanwhile in that same breath, he is being thrust over, and over,  and over again by a sick sadistic former coach of yours.  And you look back at him and don’t utter word.  You don’t offer to help.  You instead turn your back on a child who so desperately in need of you.  For that Mike McQueary you are a coward and unlike Jane Levy I have no sympathy for you.  I hope one day you have to look back into those eyes of the ten year old boy, now a man, you abandoned  and tell him sorry.  Sorry for not protecting his childhood, sorry for not being his friend in need, and sorry for not being a bigger man and standing up for what you knew to be right.

Perry Stumbles

Governor Rick Perry stumbled while addressing the three areas of government he would do away with last week. How is it that a governor (who was the front runner for the Republican party a few months ago) can completely dismiss his already hurting credibility by forgetting an important area of government that aids him in his debate? How are you suppose to gain your credibility and likability back by faltering in the midst of the general public?  While Perry tried to make a joke of the issue, I believe the issue was seen as the last straw for those who highly considered Perry in the first place.  Is anyone going to step up and take the role of being a the true leader of the Republican Party for the 2012 election?  As of now, no Republican candidate seems particularly fit for the role as Commander in Chief of the United States of America.

Friday Party Jam

Party Jam for Friday night

Music To Get Ready To

As Friday night approaches I thought it would be good to create a list of songs that people can get ready to.  You know take the showers, groom the hair (and the other hair), pick out the perfect outfit, and get the mind ready to hit the town smelling of axe body spray.  The tough thing with this list is one has to not make sure to put too many songs that a person may hear out in their go to Friday night club.  The list will include most songs that are older so here is my attempt, sorry to those who do not like hip hop:

1-  Lloyd feat Lil. Wayne-You
2-  Drake feat The Dream-Shut Down
3-  Jay-Z -Public Service Announcement
4-  Justin Timberlake-Senorita

6-  Lloyd feat Lil Wayne- Get It Shawty Remix
7-  Marques Houston- Clubbin Remix
8-  Chris Brown- Yo (Excuse Me Miss)

The Game Formally Known As "COD" (Modern Warfare 3)

After much anticipation the game formally known as “COD” Modern Warfare 3 is finally out.  I just wanted to take the time to give my thoughts on what I thought about the game so far.  While I am not a big fan of playing campaign mode the multiplayer mode has been refreshingly better than the previous COD title, Black Ops.

The game plays exceptionally smooth and seems to be much more fun.  It is definitely easier to kill others in a regular team deathmatch than previous installments; however, this does make it easier to die.  All in all the battles are much more interesting and fun to play.

As far as perks go while I haven’t come close to unlocking them all yet, the “stalker” perk seems to be my favorite so far as it allows you to walk briskly while aiming to help prevent getting shot while sprinting to the other side of the map.

The maps have been exceptional as well.  Not too big and not too small they have set up great combat areas and might be some of the best maps yet (except for Nuketown in Black Ops).

Although I am deeply disappointed at the removal of the FAMAS as an assault rifle, the gun choices have been decent.  I have been going with the SCAR for now until I get to the AK47.  The UMP has been my secondary choice.

For more information and a full review of the game, check out the video below from IGN.  They give great written and video reviews of many of your favorite games.

TV Shows worth Watching

If you are like me, your television is usually set to ESPN and MTV Jams.  But for those who want some variety in their life as their counting down the hours until they have to be back in class or the office.  Since the NBA is locked out, college basketball has not started, and good football games do not start till Thursday I thought it would be good to create a list of shows that I have found to bridge the entertainment gap thoughout my week.

Monday is Monday Night Football so I will skip to Tuesday.

Tuesday after Tosh.o on Comedy Central, a show by the name of Workaholics comes on.  It is a silly comedy that is about three friends who work and live together as they get into and out of funny scenarios.

Wednesday after Modern Family on ABC, Happy Endings comes on.  A show about a group of friends including Elisha Cuthbert share their their life experiences in a funny corky way.  Did I mention Elisha Cuthbert.  Right after Happy Endings still on ABC Revenge comes on.  A show about a hot blonde who devilishly avenges the wrongdoing of her father in the high society of the Hamptons.

Thursday if no good college football game is on I would recommend watching Whitney on NBC.  Whitney centers around the relationship between Whitney the foul mouth sexual teasing girlfriend and her calm laid back boyfriend and their friends.  A very funny show definitely worth watching.

Friday and Saturday are for sports and movies, but Sunday if you have HBO a show by the name of How to Make it in America comes on about two entrepreuners attempting to get their clothing line off the ground.  A great watch if you have HBO

Well known shows worth watching: Sons of Anarchy, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, Weeds, and Dexter.

Check em out and tell us what you think.  I think you will be thoroughly entertained...that's what she said.

The Artestry of Blake Griffin

With the NBA still locked out and no apparent end in sight, I thought I would post a Blake Griffin youtube video just to help out those who are feening to see some NBA basketball.  Get a deal done.

A.J. or Julio

A.J Green and Julio Jones will forever be linked as the prize receivers of the 2011 NFL draft.  As we pass the halfway point the question arises as to who has had  the better start to their NFL careers?  A.J. the UGA standout came into the season as the number one receiver on a bad team with a rookie quarterback (Andy Dalton).  Many experts felt that his numbers would be down especially to start the season.  Julio on the hand came into the season as the deep threat that Matt Ryan needed to compliment Roddy White, Tony Gonzalez, and Michael Turner.  Lets compare:

Player
Games Played
Receptions
Yards
Touchdowns
100 YD Gmes
*A.J. Green
7
33
516
5
2
Julio Jones
6
25
358

3

Looking at the numbers A.J. Green has more receptions, more yards, and more touchdowns.  Julio who has had a little bit of a slow start has come on strong with three 100 yard receiving games, and has become that compliment to Roddy White.  The difference between these two players at the onset of their careers is the situation that they have been drafted into.  A.J. who will most likely compile better numbers this year is targeted more because he is their big play receiver.  Not to minimize the play of Brandon Tate or Andre Caldwell this year.  On the other hand Julio is the complimentary receiver to an all pro in Roddy White, to a first ballot hall of famer in Tony Gonzalez, and to a strong running attack led by Michael Turner.  The roles of these two young talented receivers are in every way much different.  A.J. will have better numbers this year because his team needs him to have that type of impact.  Julio is merely trying to fit in on a team that a year ago was 13-3 in the regular season.
To answer my original question as to who has had a better start to their NFL career, the nod has to go to A.J. Green.  To be the main receiver on a team that to start the season was not picked to do much; and to have the impact he has had is quite remarkable.  But, do not count Julio out.  As the Colts saw today he can be more than just a compliment on certain days.
